Your team: 1990-91 Ladies Basketball Team
Joy McNichol, Brad Johnson, Peter Campbell and the 1990-91 Lady Vees Basketball Team will be the newest members of Laurentian University's Alumni Voyageur Hall of Fame.
These two amazing athletes, tireless builder and national championship team serve as a profound reminder to the strength of Laurentian University's prosperous sporting landscape. The Alumni Voyageurs Hall of Fame will hold its annual Induction Dinner at Bryston's on the Park in Copper Cliff, Ontario October, 22nd from 6:00pm to 10:00pm.
The CIAU (CIS) Rookie of the Year (1993-94) and 2000 Sydney Olympian, Joy McNichol came to Sudbury in the fall of 1993 and fit in seamlessly with the talent laden Lady Vees Basketball program. Joy's leadership, heart and dedication earned her three league all-star awards, 2 bronze medals at the CIAU National Championships and the Voyageur Award in 1996-97.
Two-time Athlete of the Year (1996 and 1998); Brad Johnson is on the podium when referring to the all time Laurentian greats in the pool. The 1998 Voyageur Award winner has two CIS gold medals, two CIS silver medals and 5 CIS bronze medals to his credit. In 1998 he set a CIS record that stood until 2007.
In 15 years at the helm of the Voyageurs Men's Basketball program, Peter Campbell compiled a 155 and 57 record. In 1996-97 Campbell was awarded the CIAU Coach of the Year. This recognition fit nicely alongside his six OUA East Coach of the Year Awards. His emphasis of melding individuals into a team propelled the Voyageurs to 6 CIAU National Championship appearances and two Wilson Cups. The 1990-91 Lady Vees Basketball team was the second of the back to back CIAU championship team to enter the Alumni Voyageur Hall of Fame. The roster boasted two, two time Olympians, multiple All-Canadians, several OWIAA All-Stars and was led by legendary head coach and 1996 Alumni Voyageur Hall of Fame inductee Peter Ennis.
